The Indri (Indri indri) is the largest lemur species

Endemic to Madagascar’s eastern rainforests, known locally as "babakoto," it inhabits low to mid-elevation tropical forests along the island’s eastern coastline, with populations varying in coloration: northern groups are black, southern ones are black-and-white, and central groups display both patterns. Indris communicate through loud, melodic calls used to mark territory and maintain group cohesion. Measuring 25 to 29 inches in length and weighing 13 to 20 pounds, they exhibit an upright posture while climbing.

The species is critically endangered due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and illegal hunting.
